Gen3sis

Gen3sis (General Engine for Eco-Evolutionary Simulations) is a freely available R package. It contains an engine for spatially-explicit eco-evolutionary mechanistic models with a modular implementation and several support functions. It allows exploring the consequences of ecological and macroevolutionary processes across realistic or theoretical spatio-temporal landscapes on biodiversity patterns as a general term.

Gen3sis relies on two inputs: (i) raster-based, time-varying landscape layers and (ii) a configuration file with four core model functions. The landscape defines the arena where the simulation occurs, while the config defines the parameters of the simulation and the eco-evolutionary rules. Thus, gen3sis is highly modular and can adapt to almost every study system

On our wiki page you can learn more about the general background of Gen3sis, get an explanation of how to set up an experiment, how to modify the configuration files for implementing specific eco-evolutionary processes and get access to tools for post-processing the output and data analysis.
